JANUARY
January 1 :: New Years Celebration
January 31 – February 5 :: Arena Festival – The biggest gay and lesbian dance music festival in the Riviera Maya held every year in Playa del Carmen, where a cast of renowned international musicians will dance to attendees for five consecutive days.
FEBRUARY
February 6-13 :: Playa del Carmen Carnival – Event of joy and fun of five days that consists of dance, contest and coronation of kings and queens of the carnival, dance of exhibition of comparsas, concerts and parade of cars allegorical, among other activities.
February 14 :: Valentine’s Day – Celebrate a romantic day in Mexico with your friends, family and that special someone.
MARCH
March 17 :: St. Patrick’s Day – Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day like no other in the tropical paradise of Cancun. Restaurants, bars and businesses carry out promotions and events to celebrate this holiday.
March 21 :: Spring Equinox in Chichen Itza – On this date it is possible to see the descent of God Kukulkán through the designed light and shadow effects by the MAYAN thousands of years ago. A uncountable amount of people gather at the pyramids of Chichén Itzá to admire this mysterious and fascinating heritage phenomenon of the MAYA culture.
March 26 :: Start of Holy Week – Thousands of tourists from all over Mexico travel to Cancun to relax with family and friends.
APRIL
April 1-6 :: Easter Holiday Celebrations – Easter holidays (from March 26 to April 6) and Easter (Easter Sunday). High season of national tourism.
April 17 :: Easter Sunday – Celebrate Easter like never before and join us in Cancun, Mexico.
MAY
May 4-6 :: Sport Fishing Tournament – “Don Andrés García Lavin,” a popular Fishing Tournament in which more than 100 vessels compete for a bag of more than a million pesos and additional prizes.
May 5 :: Day of the Battle of Puebla – Traditions include military parades, recreations of the Battle of Puebla and other festive events.
May 24 :: Start of Spring Break – Young adults from all over the world travel to Cancun to celebrate Spring Break.
JUNE
June 1 :: Navy Day – Commemoration of the national navy day in Isla Women, a tour of the Caribbean Sea where they participate rescue boats, ships and crew.
June 21 :: Summer Solstice – Date of great importance for the Mayan culture the date of maximum contrast between day and night. Beyond giving us more hours on the beach, this contrast means that the planet receives more energy from the sun’s rays, than for the Mayans it was the day when the creator blesses us with abundance, fertility and joviality. To honor this date, this day the Fire Ceremony is held at different points from the Riviera Maya.
JULY
July 15 :: Feast of the Virgen del Carmen – This festival is tied to a belief that Virgen del Carmen protects the houses and defeats demons that try to climb the rooftops. It is celebrated on July 15-18. Celebrations include dancing and singing with masks for three days. It is a lighter and more relaxed version of a religious festival, so you are allowed to drink alcohol and party a little bit louder
July 24 :: Mayan New Year – According to the MAYA tradition, the new year begins on the 26th of July ending on July 24 of the following year, leaving July 25th as a period of time to meditate, reflect, and purify the spirit, in preparation for the new year that begins the next day. This day has been taken to celebrate this date and hold festivities that include dances, meals, and handicrafts in different parts of the Riviera Maya.
AUGUST
August 1 to October 31 :: Turtle Watching – Go to the baby turtle observation workshop and live this fascinating experience in which you can observe the turtles leave their nests to go into the ocean. Bring your family and help these beautiful animals to achieve your goal.
August 17 :: Isla Mujeres Foundation – Date of celebration to commemorate the founding of the paradisiacal Isla Mujeres. Different areas of Cancun carry out activities and celebrations to commemorate the anniversary of this beautiful place. The festivities are something you and your family and friends don’t want to miss out on.
SEPTEMBER
September 15 :: Celebration of the Independence of Mexico – A spectacular fireworks show will be held in Cancun, Mexico.
September 16 :: Mexican Independence Day – A mandatory holiday throughout the beaches of Cancun.
September 21-29 :: Festivities of San Miguel Arcángel – Religious celebration in honor of San Miguel Arcángel, patron from San Miguel de Cozumel. It consists of processions, masses, food and craft festivals. The event takes place in the Island of the Swallows.
September 22 :: Autumn Equinox – Important astral event according to the tradition of MAYA. Events are held in the different Mayan ruins regions.
September 30 :: Ironman 70.3 Cozumel – International high performance athletics competition. Triathletes from around the world come together to be part of to participate in this sporting event that has as setting the paradisiacal landscape of Cozumel.
OCTOBER
October 11-14 :: Festival Sabor – Gastronomic festival that combines tradition and avant-garde of the great gastronomic wealth of the Riviera Maya in which food lovers and professionals have the opportunity to attend seminars and taste delicious prepared dishes with the best ingredients of the region.
October 12 :: Columbus Day – In Cancun, the streets are they fill with parties, music, dances and parades.
October 31 :: Halloween – Cancun is the spooky place to be every year on Halloween. From costume contests to pumpkin carving, we have something everyone for the whole family to enjoy.
NOVEMBER
November 1 :: All Saints’ Day – According to Mexican tradition, the souls of deceased children they return to visit their loved ones. To commemorate this day, different events and activities are carried out in different points of the city
November 2 :: Day of The Dead – Date on which, according to Mexican tradition, the souls of the dead return to visit their loved ones. To receive them, the relatives of the deceased they prepare altars with photographs, flowers, candles and these people’s favorite foods and drinks. At the same time, families and friends share the traditional bread and hot chocolate. All over town catrinas and decorations alluding to this celebration.
November 3 :: Janal Pixán – Contest of altars of the dead in the Main Park of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. Place and date to be announced soon.
November 5-11 :: Mayakoba Golf Classic – Date in the Golf Tournament that has the honor of having been the first PGA Tour event to take place outside of United States and Canada. This event takes place on Camaleón Golf Club and has the participation of 132 professional golfers.
November 12-19 :: Cultural Fall Cozumel – Music, dance, theater, poetry, visual arts and event workshops offered to the Cozumel community and its national and international visitors a taste of the cultural offer of this city.
November 27 :: Thanksgiving Day – Celebrate Thanksgiving with a authentic Mexican meal provided by outstanding chefs throughout the city.
November 30 – Dec 1 :: Riviera Maya Jazz Festival – Celebrate the 15th edition of one of the best jazz festivals of the world in which renowned musicians perform in the Iconic Mamitas Beach in Playa del Carmen.
DECEMBER
December 16-24 :: Christmas In Cancun – A 9 day religious celebration of Christmas events throughout the areas of Cancun.

December 31 :: New Years Eve – Cancun is a popular destination to celebrate the new year. Locals and tourists meet in different parts of the city to ring in the new year. A celebration is held in the Malecón and surrounding beaches and streets. Hotels, restaurants and Nightclubs organize dinners and special events. The most restaurants, hotels, and nightclubs remain open.
